The first leg of the Born Free Tour kicks off January 15 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI & mdash; an event that doubles as a 40th birthday party for the country rocker, complete with special guest performers. The 27-city itinerary then winds through the Midwest and South before wrapping March 12 event at FedEx Forum in Memphis, TN.

Along the way, Rock and opening act Jamey Johnson have shows lined up on January 29 at the Nutter Center in Dayton, OH; February 11 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY; February 26 at United Center in Chicago, IL; and March 9 at Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL.

Tickets to Rock’s birthday celebration in Detroit goes on sale to the public November 26. Public onsales for the remainder of the tour start on December 3 and 4. Ticket pricing has not been revealed for the early year trek.

Additional tour schedule and concert dates will be added to Rock’s 2011 calendar later in the year. For all dates, he’ll be playing with his longtime backing band, the Twisted Brown Trucker Band. Tour updates and announcements are available on the musician’s official Web site.

This past year, Rock toured as the opening act for select dates of Bon Jovi’s successful Circle Tour. And in 2008 and 2009, Rock was busy running his own headlining tours with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Rock’s first album in three years, “Born Free,” was released this week on November 16. The set serves as the follow-up to “Rock N Roll Jesus,” which debuted atop the Billboard 200 upon its release in October 2007.
